Volunteering opportunities with Girl Scouts are tailored to fit your calendar, your skills, and your interests. Your time as a volunteer will provide girls the free and safe environment they need to pursue whatever interests, causes, and leadership roles are most important to them. With your support, girls will stand up, stand out, and stand tall.
Every girl has the ability to lead. But only one girl in five believes she can. A lack of role models, unhealthy images of beauty, peer pressure to not stand out, and a mean-girl culture are just some of the obstacles that stand between girls and their full potential. But now that you’re here, girls are one step closer to breaking down those barriers. Explore what being a volunteer could mean for you. We know what it means for girls.

Safety
Nothing is more important within Girl Scouting than ensuring the health and safety of girls. Health and safety extend to developing safety consciousness in girls and adults, as well as training staff, volunteers, and girls to ensure proper supervision, prevention of accidents and incidents, and maintenance of program resources.
Girl Scouts covers safety from all angles in several resources available to volunteers through your local council:
•Volunteer Essentials Handbook, our national volunteer handbook, devotes an entire chapter to volunteers' responsibilities for protecting girls' emotional and physical well-being.
•Safety Activity Checkpoints, in-depth safety information and tips that adult volunteers use for Girl Scout sports and activities; girls can also use these checkpoints to ready their group for a girl-led activity.
Adult Learning
Thank you for accepting the challenge of working with girls. Your enthusiasm and willingness to serve helps Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana fulfill the Girl Scout Mission – helping girls build courage, confidence, and character. To assist you in your service to girls, the council is committed to providing high quality learning opportunities for all volunteers. An experienced corps of trainers is available to deliver a wide variety of courses and workshops. In almost all cases, your trainers are volunteers just like you. They receive no compensation and are giving their time, energy, and expertise to make Girl Scouting an enjoyable and worthwhile experience for the girls in your troop and for you.
